Today marks the solemn Punyathithi (death anniversary) of legendary Maratha warrior Baji Prabhu Deshpande. He famously fought the Battle of Pavankhind (near Kolhapur), holding off invading Adilshahi forces at a narrow mountain pass to ensure the safe escape of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to Vishalgad Fort.
